SUMMARY:2023 Arbor Day Event
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for Niskayuna’s annual Arbor Day event which this year will held on Sat\, April 29 at the Niskayuna Town Hall from 11am-1pm\, rain or shine! \nThere will be free trees given out to Niskayuna residents (while supplies last). We have a large variety of trees/shrubs to choose from this year! They include: arborvitae (white cedar)\, white flowering dogwood\, pink flowering cherry\, eastern redbud\, lilac\, magnolia\, american cranberry\, paw paw\, carya pecan\, red maple\, sugar maple\, river birch\, swamp white oak\, white spruce\, white pine\, raspberry bush\, and elderberry. Descriptions of each of these trees or shrubs can be found on the Niskayuna Tree Council web site at the following link:  \n2023 Arbor Day Trees \n \nThere will also be several booths and activities. Silent Wings\, a live raptor rehabilitation and education organization will be there with some of their birds. Other booths include: Albany Pinebush\, “Ask a Tree Expert”\, Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners\, Schenectady Soil & Water Conservation District\, National Grid\, Invasive Species Experts (including spongy moth information)\, and Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy\, along with a craft activity for families.  \nWe will also be planting the town Arbor Day tree (a Shiloh Splash River Birch) at the town hall during this event. The Shiloh Splash River Birch is a small\, compact tree that has incredible green/creamy white variegated leaves\, and exfoliating\, cinnamon colored bark. It is deer resistant and is both heat tolerant and cold-hardy. The leaves turn a beautiful golden-yellow color in the fall. This tree also supports many types of song birds and wildlife who use it for cover and as a food source. \nPlease come and join us for this spring event\, and celebrate Arbor Day and the importance and beauty of trees in our town!

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Trees! \nJoin us Saturday\, April 23\, 2022 for the Town’s 7th Annual Arbor Day\, returning in person to the Niskayuna Town Hall Green from 11am-1pm. The Niskayuna Tree Council will have a wide assortment of trees to give away: (arborvitae (white cedar)\, balsam fir\, crabapple\, dogwood\, eastern redbud\, elderberry\, golden currant\, lilac\, norway spruce\, paw paw\, persimmon\, red maple\, raspberry bush\, rose of sharon\, sugar maple\, tulip tree\, and white oak.)  Read the descriptions of these trees here. \nFun for the whole family! There will be seed giveaways\, crafts\, and local high school clubs to visit. Kids- don’t forget to hand in a completed Great Arbor Day Tree Hunt and get a prize. \nWe will also be planting the town Arbor Day Tree (an eastern redbud) at the town hall during this event. \nNote: Unlike the past 2 years\, this will not be a drive-through event. People will need to park to visit the booths and get their trees.
