Come join us for Niskayuna’s annual Arbor Day event which this year will held on Sat, April 29 at the Niskayuna Town Hall from 11am-1pm, rain or shine!

There will be free trees given out to Niskayuna residents (while supplies last). We have a large variety of trees/shrubs to choose from this year! They include: arborvitae (white cedar), white flowering dogwood, pink flowering cherry, eastern redbud, lilac, magnolia, american cranberry, paw paw, carya pecan, red maple, sugar maple, river birch, swamp white oak, white spruce, white pine, raspberry bush, and elderberry. 2023 Arbor Day Trees

There will also be several booths and activities. Silent Wings, a live raptor rehabilitation and education organization will be there with some of their birds. Other booths include: Albany Pinebush, “Ask a Tree Expert”, Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, Schenectady Soil & Water Conservation District, National Grid, Invasive Species Experts (including spongy moth information), and Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, along with a craft activity for families.

We will also be planting the town Arbor Day tree (a Shiloh Splash River Birch) at the town hall during this event. The Shiloh Splash River Birch is a small, compact tree that has incredible green/creamy white variegated leaves, and exfoliating, cinnamon colored bark. It is deer resistant and is both heat tolerant and cold-hardy. The leaves turn a beautiful golden-yellow color in the fall. This tree also supports many types of song birds and wildlife who use it for cover and as a food source.
